Main Bathroom

East Melbourne

Situated in a delightful treelined street sits Bradoc House a elegant Art deco apartment block with a striking façade. The apartments were finished being constructed in 1934 and still retain many of the original features of its era.

Clients Brief
The small bathroom was to be completely redesigned, however the design needed to be clever with the small footprint it presented.
The bathroom was to include a level entry shower recess. A niche in the wall to keep shampoo bottles off the floor. A foot niche. A vanity and mirrored cabinet that were a nod to the art deco era and new back to wall toilet. A Euro laundry unit.
If possible, reuse the original art deo light fitting.

Design Statement
The bathroom was stripped back to the concrete flooring and brick walls.
A false wall was constructed to provide a space to run the plumbing for the toilet, shower recess and the euro laundry. As well as providing the framework for the niches
A permit was required to enable the toilet to be relocated to fit within our new design which allowed for the best possible use of space in a tight area.
The Euro laundry is behind closed doors on the right handside of the bathroom and is screened off by the bathroom door when the door is open.
The custom-made vanity and art deco styled mirrored cabinet with bevel edged detailing provided much needed storage.
Both our clients and ourselves fell in love with the embossed art deco terrazzo floor tiles which were made especially for Lisa and Lachlan’s bathroom.
As per Lisa and Lachlan wish, the original art deco pendant light was sent away to be replated and was proudly hung as a finishing touch.
