This Italianate late-Victorian villa, originally built in 1890 as part of a development by the Melbourne Permanent Building Society, carries a rich architectural history. During the 1950s and 1960s, the property was divided into three flats before being restored to a single residence by new owners in 1975.

When the current owners purchased the home in the late 1990s, it was in an unliveable condition. They embarked on a substantial heritage home renovation, carefully restoring the original structure while adding a contemporary dining and living extension to the rear. Each addition was designed to complement the property’s distinctive period character.

Now, 25 years later, the owners have once again engaged in a home renovation project to update and refresh their much-loved home — Simply Bathroom Solutions build team were engaged to deliver this next stage of the home’s transformation.

This renovation not only required craftsmen whose experience in renovating period homes was paramount. But required an eye for detail that the clients strived to achieve in renovating their heritage home.  

The clients sought to ground the master bedroom with a striking wallpaper mural that became the focal point of the room and the inspiration for the adjoining ensuite bathroom renovation. Working closely with the wallpaper designer, each bird and insect was carefully positioned to frame the semi-recessed shaving cabinet and complement the wall sconces.

A custom slate-grey vanity and matching cabinet were selected to harmonise with the wallpaper tones and the original St Anne’s grey marble fireplace, believed to date back to the late 1880s. The fireplace was meticulously restored, complete with a new black granite hearth

The owners’ vision for the bathroom was to complement the era and aesthetic of the home, but at the same time create a refreshed and modern aesthetic. The team at Simply Bathrooms worked very closely with the owners throughout the entire process to translate their concept into reality.
