Typical of the 1980s era, this home features a generous floor plan, tall ceilings, and interesting architectural angles. However, the existing main bathroom functioned as a Jack and Jill space, accessible from two bedrooms, and divided into three small, disconnected rooms — one each for the bath and shower, toilet, and vanity. While this layout once suited a busy household, it no longer met the family’s needs. The brief was to reimagine the entire area as one spacious and functional main bathroom with a single point of entry.

Closing off one of the access doors to the adjoining bedroom allowed the redesign to introduce a large walk-in shower recess creating a sense of openness and calm. The vanity area was kept in its original position as it created a perfect divide between the vanity and shower area. The rooms redesign cleverly improved the rooms flow and functionality while the toilet was discreetly screened for privacy.

A refined palette of layered greys and textured finishes gives the space a masculine yet sophisticated tone, designed with the clients’ son in mind. Floor-to-ceiling tiles in matching tones add a sense of height and luxury, while reducing long-term maintenance.
